Do you know anything about how to train your dog ?

I always enjoy watching the dog to do many different things such as pick up the ball to her master when the ball was threw out, jump over the fire, attack on the bad guys who tried to break in to the house and things like that. However, I do know one thing, the dog needs to be trained before she can perform so many task. I don't know how to train a dog. In fact , I have never own a dog. But I think it is good to know more before I will have one. Some people said toilet training is very important for the dog and I think nobody would disagree about it. Right ?
