It Was An Enjoyable Music Treat

My daughter and I went to the FREE Music Event at the local library yesterday evening and really enjoyed the music. It was just an hour long, but the musical group, “Free Rangers” played some very interesting music. Sort of old folk songs, a little blue grass and some country music. The group consisted of a married couple, who both sang. She played rhythm guitar and he played bass guitar. She actually had written a few of the songs they sang and they were good. Then, another fellow played lead guitar and sang one song, and another guy played the Dobro. I hadn’t seen a Dobro for years. It was actually nice to hear again. My family from West Virginia used to all get together and play music and sing together. I sang from the time I was a small child. I can also play the guitar and piano. The Dobro, named after the Dopyera Brothers who invented it, is what they call a resonator guitar. The word Dobro, also means “goodness” or goodwill in their native Slovak language. The Gibson Guitar Corporation acquired the Dobro trademark in 1994, according to my research online. An extra treat that we enjoyed was seeing some old friends there, who came up after the show and talked with us for quite a while. It was so nice to see them again. A couple months ago, my daughter and I went to a “Motown Music Event” at a theater in Hopewell, Virginia, with some other friends. The tickets were fairly expensive but it was well worth it. She is checking with the theater for upcoming programs, so I hope we can find some good events.
