Public speaking

I was in a seminar yesterday. The speaker did very well. She was given a podium with a mike on it, but she chose to walk and speak with a hand held mike. It was rather engaging and I found people participating the discussion. They were all alert and responding. It was like she owned the platform and subject. Same day another speaker chose to sit and speak from dias. I found it rather boring and people soon started feeling bored. This was the difference, irrelevant to the subject discussed, I guess this is the key to successful public speaking.

I once spoke at a seminar in Tehran (Iran). They gave me a wireless headset microphone so I walked about all over the stage. The organiser said afterward "We never had anybody speak and move at the same time before". I thought that was pretty funny.

Agree. It is like "you want me to speak normally to public and move too?"

Yes, indeed. Being an observant you are bang on. There are many ways of being a good public speaker. You can be interesting just by sitting in one place and talking. Sometimes it is the skill set which we need to learn and apply. With experience and practice, one can definitely become master in public speaking. Take care . :)

Yes, I've rarely spoken in public with a little success, but what I observed was how people felt about it.
