Cripple the banking system to cripple the whole country

Hardly anyone use cash to pay for everything. We have direct bank debit for many bills. We use ATM card or debit card to pay for our grocery. We use debit or credit card to book air tickets, and pay for online purchase. If a terrorist group wants to cripple the economy of the whole country, the easiest way is to cripple the banking system. Once they can do that, and all systems stop accepting debit or credit card, and ATM machines do not accept ATM card, everyone will suffer. If you go to the bank to withdraw money, and the tellers cannot access the banking system because system is down, that is almost the end of the world.

A very scary scenario that you paint over there.

Yet it is feasible. So far the terrorist groups are not high-tech enough to do so.

What are you trying to say? Should we stop using cards? Should we stop using banks? Should we keep our money under the mattress? Why worry about the terrorists? Bankers alraedy cotrol the world and our money.

At least you know how the bankers work, and you still have access to your money. When Greece imposes capital control last year, that is terrible. Hard to imagine what will happen when terrorists stop us from taking out our money, and they wipe out our banking records. It is fortunate that terrorists are not so high-tech yet.

@sugartoes With all due respect you are too far off with the conspiracy theory. Besides I am 80 years old and don't have a dime which is the way I planned it. I spend my money as I get it and enjoy life doing it instead of worrying about 'things'!

I still use cash as I don't like using my debit card in store due to fraud chances.

Even then, you still have to withdraw cash from the bank or ATM. Once the banking system is crippled, there is no way you can get cash.

@scheng1 That is true. Did not think of that.
