In every Social Media sites, users follow a lot of strategies to increase the number of their followers. Responding the followers is one of the most common principles that pays the reward in increasing the followers.
Another important strategy is the appropriate use of hashtags or the tags with each post. Exceptionally, some users get a huge number of followers.
What is the strategy you use to get more followers.

I some social sites, the number of followers really matter, but not here.

The only worthwhile followers here are ones who frequently respond to your discussions, responses and comments. The number next to "Followers" on your profile doesn't mean a thing.
The only way to get good followers here is to be a good 'follower' yourself and to post something interesting, relevant and worthwhile in reply to their discussions, responses and comments, especially when they respond to your discussions. The secret is simply in knowing how to make a conversation interesting and how to maintain it.
Using tags will be some help in letting other users find your discussions, it is true, but the only sure method of gaining real followers is to be social and interesting yourself.

Does it really matter? I can see everyone's posts and all the comments. I had someone follow me this morning that I had been talking to frequently over the last 6 weeks and concluded that following doesn't matter here as much as it might on other sites.
