What does Donald Trump mean by "making America great again"?

The mantra uttered every time Donald Trump opens his mouth - which is often! - is "we're going to make America great again". But what exactly does he mean by this? If he has in mind that the United States will force the rest of the world to dance to its tune, is that really such a good idea?

It's a slogan that is rather meaningless. America was not so great during the Great Depression. We were not so great when discrimination was rampant in America. We were not so great when so many Americans could not afford health insurance. These are just a few samples.

I suppose it depends on how you define greatness. My interest here is in how Donald Trump defines it, and how his supporters do. Great leaders lead - they show the way that others want to follow. However, many powerful people in the past have believed themselves to be great leaders when in fact they are dictators - telling others what to do and using strong-arm tactics when those others don't do what they are told.

@indexer I suppose that's about all he can mean since for one country to be great all the others have to be weaker so that greatness can be seen. The only way that Trump and American can be seen as rich and powerful is by keeping the rest of the world poor. I do hope ordinary citizens see that a vote for Trump is a vote to keep the rich rich and keep everyone else in their place.

You say America keeps the rest of the world poor? Who do you think supports most of the world with billions in aid from my tax dollars, providing millions of outsourced jobs taken from Americans like me and spending millions on tourism and goods in and from other countries? What country gives the most money when disaster strikes a Haiti?

Trump is a moron. Along with the rest of those republicans. It all seems to me that they have mental issues. America has been falling apart only because what they perceive as great is nothing more than being a bully. We need to change how we think. We need to bring america together, not to separate. That to me is real progress.

For some reason Republicans feel that because Obama was elected and re-elected, they "lost" something. "Taking America Back" was popular for awhile. All that filibusting and shutting down the government grew out of that rhetoric. Personally, I think Romney's 99% comment scared them silly, like tell us how you really feel about majority of Americans - Oops!

It is just a catch phrase that most politicians have. You cannot always take them seriously though sometimes they are ominous. Those who dislike Obama learned what he meant by Yes We Can.
