I found a few things that happened on this date in history, so I thought that I would share them with you.
Thomas Alva Edison, American inventor, was born on this day in 1847 in Milan, Ohio. I’m sure that those who live in Ohio know all about that.
It was on this day, in 1929, that the Lateran Treaty was signed, when Italy recognized the sovereignty and independence of Vatican City, making it the smallest country in the world.
On this date in 1990, Nelson Mandela, a South African activist, was freed from prison after 27 years.
Actor Burt Reynolds was born on this day, along with singer Sheryl Crow and actress Jennifer Aniston.
I’m sure there were other historic events on this date, but that’s all I could find for today.

Mandela was in prison for many years, so it was BIG news when he was released.

Just to remind us of a few things that happened in the past. Sometimes we forget too easily.
