President Obama has announced he will nominate someone to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. What do you think about this? Thank you for contributing.

Hi @amadeo I think he needs to appoint someone. Making Supreme Court appointments is part of his duties under the Constitution.

@MandaLee it doesn't mean the congress is under any obligation to confirm his nomination.

"jerks on the Republican side?" Who could be more of a jerk than a woman who throws out the test scores of firefighters just because they were white. Racists have no business being Supreme Court "justices," (in case the Democrats didn't know, justice is supposed to be blind and impartial) and yet the Obama put such a racist in that position.

It's all a set-up. Apparently the Supreme Court isn't liberal enough for the power elite, so they have to make sure that Obama gets at least one more of his pets in there. The Supreme Court has actually been unconstitutional for many years now, because they are not supposed to make laws, only decide the constitutionality of laws. They are also supposed to be impartial, and not take political sides, but that nowadays the office has just become a tool of the presidency, one more way for Obama to through his weight around and avoid the Constitutional process of law making.

@Connierebel, That's an interesting way of looking at the Supreme Court.

I don't even understand why it's something to be discussed. Surely that's the right of the president.
