Vegetarian: Is Not Healthy?

Some vegetarians claimed that they are healthy. “Are we sure that this is certified?” Since our body needs food to make the body systems do its function. I do think that it is good to be health conscious; we don’t want to jeopardize our life for having medical conditions: heart problems, high cholesterol level, hypertension, etc. But then, we need proteins to be digested by our body. Most likely, the source of nutrients will come from raw meats. There are some people forget that we need proteins for our muscles to develop. “Can we just incorporate a well-balanced diet?” “What do you think?”

Soya contains high amount of protein and I am sure there will be others that come under the category of vegetables. I am not a vegetarian but there are many healthy vegetarians.

@Marty1 I do think we need to respect of other's choice. I am not against it. When I was a volunteer, some of my foreign colleagues have their preferences in food. That's the good thing in working to a international NGO. They are sensitive to other people's preferences.

@Marty1 It depends on what is the vision and mission of the non-government organization. I was connected as a volunteer in an NGO that transfer my professional skills to the local people.

I think i have read that indeed being a vegetarian lacks some certain nutrients . And it could be because of the proteins in meat that they don't have much in vegetables.

@Marty1 My mother used to make a patty for a burger , made of the finely chopped heart of the banana . It's delicious . We only use the microwave for reheating left overs . Electricity is so costly for cooking .

I think the subject of diet and food is subjective and can never be generalized, It depends on the person and the present state or condition of his body. One diet is beneficial to some but harmful to others.

There are plenty of vegetable derived proteins. The world cannot sustain a 7 billion population if they all want to eat steaks. I eat fish but have not eaten meat in 25 years and I am not missing out on vital nutrients.

@boiboing That's nice to know. We can have some proteins by eating fish and veggies. Wow! It has been a long time you haven't eaten some animal meat.

@Shavkat Think of all the beans and pulses that make up so much of the world's diet. All good protein. And remember that cows burping and farting methane has caused a lot of damage to the ozone layer.

@Marty1 I don't think it's your god, I think it's your gut. This is one of the problems with cutting things out of our diet for an extended time - generally our systems don't react well when we put them back. I once had chicken due to a mistranslation in a German restaurant. I didn't KNOW what had happened until the next morning when I checked their website but my guts knew within an hour and nothing stayed inside me for very long.

There are plenty of healthy vegetarians who derive protein of all the necessary kinds from a diet which doesn't involve killing animals. Good protein sources are pulses, meaning beans and lentils, nuts and grains such as wheat and rice and dairy products, such as milk, cheese and eggs.

I always think that the balanced diet is the best. Namely you shall eat more vegetables and less meats. However, it doesn't mean that you have to be a vegetarian. We also need the meats since they contain many useful elements and nutritions, too.
