Petronas is a Malaysia state oil company.
However, the commercials that Petronas produce throughout the years are not meant to pull customers into their gas stations.
Petronas TV commercials teach moral values, and let viewers see a part of Malaysia that is not known to tourists, or to the working adults in the cities.
After I view the latest commercial, The Making Of Rubber Boy, which is released in time for Chinese New Year, I am very touched.
Chinese New Year is not a time to complain about poverty, or the lack of new toys or new clothes.
It is a time to appreciate our family members.
What does it really mean to have a blessed year ahead? A young boy finds out his #greatestblessing the hard way when he walks a mile in his mother’s shoes. D...

If it takes a TV commercial to appreciate your family members there are other problems there.

It is actually a good idea to have TV commercials that teach moral values.
Actually Asia as a whole is much better than in many other countries.
It is a norm for adult children over here to take care of parents financially and emotionally.
Many families either employ domestic maids to take care of aging parents, or someone will quit job to stay home and become full time caregiver.

While the little boy in the commercial learned to appreciate the hard work his mother does to support him (a good thing and one people often don't learn until it's too late), I can't help but wonder if perhaps the employer couldn't learn to show a little bit of appreciation by buying their workers a living wage.
Just a thought.

It is a living wage though the work is hard enough.
In this commercial, the mother is a single parent, and she pins her hope on her son.
The son apparently has enough to eat, study and have a roof over his head, though his mother cannot afford to buy a car, or give him new toys.

I always appreciate to this commercial. You reminded me a commercial that an old man who has the Parkinson. He is so forgetful and sometimes this makes his son feel impatient and angry. One day they had a meal together. This old man just took dumplings and put them into the plastic bag. His son asked him what's wrong with him. The old man said he left the dumplings for his son because it is his favorite. The ending said: He might forget everything in the world except for his son. A very touching commerical.
