What to do with acorn squash...

I am a terrible cook. But I love free stuff. So when one of my neighbor offered me 6 free (free!!) acorn squashes, of course I said yes. For some reason I was thinking they would be similar in shape/texture/etc as zucchini or yellow squash --- this is not the case. In fact, I figured out why they may be called "acorn" squash. So I decided to experiment with the help of Google on some recipes, and I Found one that involved baking the squash with butter and sugar. Seemed to have rave reviews online. I did that, and I have to say....kind of gross, actually. Do you have any personal favorite recipes using acorn squash? Anything you can suggest to me?
