Nuclear power is good as long as the nuclear power plant is not anywhere near me.
This seems to be the attitude holds by many people.
You probably have not heard of CGN Power.
CGN Power Co China is the largest provider of nuclear power in China.
I get to know CGN Power Co China when it was planning for a very large IPO in Hong Kong stock market.
CGN Power was able to raise US$3.16 billion dollars from the investors.
That is because many investors still believe in nuclear power. Nuclear power is clean and cheap, and will provide return for investors for many years.
When CGN Power listed in Hong Kong stock market, I guess many investor who bought into it were not living near to the nuclear power plant.

We live just a few miles (as the crow flies) from a nuclear power plant...waiting for the second unit to come on line., I did't realize it when we bought this house - but heck, if it blows it will kill people all over this area.

@marlina Yes, that's why I stopped worrying about it. There are many power plants in the south so we would get fried one way or another.

The modern nuclear power plant has very tight security measure.
When Japan suffered from earthquake and tsunami a few years ago, the nuclear risk was contained.
That nuclear plant was very old, yet it still held in the face of disaster.
Having said that, I do not want to live near a nuclear power plant.

Backyard or no backyard i think it's not good, it's old technology and too risky to humans and the environment. I think solar, wind and tidal motion is the way to go. if i were to speculate on stocks, i would buy those that are one the cleaner side especially solar, it has bigger potential for growth, easier to build, less resistance from people on the site etc...easier permits
