February 16th was a very interesting day in history. I enjoyed looking up some information about this day. For those in the Philippines: 1945: American soldiers landed on the island of Corregidor in the Philippines during World War II on February 16th. For those in Lithuania: Your country proclaimed its independence on February 16th, 1918. In Egypt, in 1923, King Tut’s (Tutankhamen) burial tomb was unsealed on February 16th. For those in Cuba: Fidel Castro became premier after overthrowing Fulgencio Batista, in 1959, on February 16th. In the USA, the first 911 emergency telephone system was introduced in Alabama in 1968. In Sumatra, over 200 people were killed by an earthquake on February 16th, 1994 These are just a few of the things that I found for this date. Perhaps you know of other things that happened on this date in history.

Thank you for those interesting historical facts. I was most interested to learn that the first 911 system in the US was introduced in Alabama. Nothing against the Crimson Tide, but Alabama isn't the first state to come to mind when one thinks of telecommunications advances.
