Day 7 – Petition
Esther 7
Petitions hope to bring about change in our lives. Whether those changes are for our good, we must determine, and usually on an upcoming election ballot.
Esther had a petition as well. When King Ahasuerus asked her the second time what her request was, she petitioned him for her life and that of her people because Haman had conspired against them to kill them.
For the first time Haman and the king understood Esther was Jewish, and it was Haman who made request for his life of Queen Esther. King Ahasuerus saw the attention Haman gave Esther and ordered he be hung on the gallows he constructed for Mordecai.
Satan has determined evil towards us. His goal is to steal, kill, and destroy everyone who names the name of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
It was in the king’s hand to save a life, as we saw with Queen Esther when she entered the throne room of the palace and King Ahasuerus held out the golden scepter to her granting her life. He also had the power to destroy life as seen here when he ordered Haman hung for his conspiracy.
As Christians we know who has the ultimate authority over life and death, and Jesus said He came to give us abundant life.
Jesus also told us we should fear no one who threatens us with death, but only the One who has the power to destroy body and soul in Hell.
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (KJV)
Esther’s petition was for her life and that of her people so they could continue to serve the Lord God Almighty, which was the only reason Haman sought to destroy the Jews – they bowed to no man but God alone.
When we accept Jesus as Savior and Lord, we too petition God for our lives from destruction, and God holds out the golden scepter to us, granting our lives because we accepted His Son as our Savior and Lord, and Jesus’ blood now covers us so that Satan can no longer destroy our lives.
Rather, it is Satan who faces destruction in the Lake of Fire and Brimstone at the final judgment.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (KJV)
As Christians, knowing Satan’s final end should give us confidence to come before God with any petition that secures our lives from any plan Satan devises against us.
Have you come to the place where you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord? Has God held out the golden scepter to you?
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for providing Your Son, Jesus, to be my Savior. Help me come with confidence to You any time Satan devises evil against me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

I love the story of Esther, how she was chosen by God for a specific purpose, and when the time came to be used, she put her life on the line. We never know when the Lord may ask us to do something special for Him, so we need to always be ready.
