Rotoworld reports on Tuesday the Boston Red Sox have reached a minor league contract agreement with for Chicago Cubs right handed relief pitcher Carlos Marmol, 33, to try out to make the team during Spring training.
Marmol will report to the Red Sox Spring training facility in Fort Myers Florida in an attempt to pitch in the Major League Baseball level since the 2014 baseball season when he pitched as a relief pitcher for the Miami Marlins.
Marmol was released by the Marlins on May 19, 2014 after he was designated for assignment by the team after he made 15 relief appearances with an earned run average of 8.10.
Even though the Cincinnati Reds signed Marmol to a minor league contract on May 27, 2014 he did not pitch for the Reds during the 2014 baseball season. Marmol was released by the Reds on November 27, 2014.
Marmol signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians on May 8, 2015. Marmol pitched as a relief pitcher for the Columbus Clippers which is the AAA minor league branch of the Indians during the entire 2015 baseball season.
Marmol will have be facing the challenge of making the Red Sox as a relief pitcher since they will have a lot of right handed relief pitchers in Spring training trying out to make the team in 2016.
Marmol has pitched for the Chicago Cubs from 2006-2013, the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013 and the Miami Marlins in 2014.

As a die hard Cub fan I wish Marmol all the best. He had a few good years for the Cubs.

I am also a Cubs fan who is hoping before that they will win their first World Series in 1908 in the near future.

I don't even remember Marmol pitching for the Dodgers. I will be surprised if he makes the cut with the Sox.

A very long shot to make the Red Sox staff but he could land on his feet with another team if the Red Sox release him.
