Unexpected but Badly Needed Purchase

While I have the tendency to buy something that I like on impulse, I think it takes me a while to decide on something for the most part. A good example is when getting a new pair of shoes, especially if I am going to use it for a specific purpose. While I like bargains, I do not scrimp on a good pair of shoes that can support me the whole day and if it will be something that will last me for a while given that I will be using it daily. So I was very disappointed that I have to get a new pair of walking shoes during our trip. I did not plan to shop for a pair, and I totally did not set a budget for this, but unfortunately it was a very much needed buy. My feet were starting to blister, and the tennis shoes that I was wearing were failing me. Granted, I have not worn that pair for a whole day of walking. It looks so nice, but I learned that day in a painful way that looks can be deceiving.
The boyfriend and I went to Payless Shoe Store to get me a new pair because we both know that I will be miserable the whole time if I will just put on bad aids to my blisters and still use the same pair which caused the injury. I did bring another pair of shoes, but it is more of a slippers type, you know, the fluffy and fuzzy ones that you use to lounge in hotels or your bedroom. It is definitely not something that you will use to walk around and see the sights.
The new pair cost me $37.99. While it is not really bad, I still felt a little uneasy because my budget was ruined. But my spirits picked up after I started enjoying seeing the sights with a pair of shoes that do not “bite”.

Shoes must be comfortable. I have difficult feet to buy walking/running shoes for. The last time the only shoes that fit properly were Sketchers.

@Morleyhunt I could have gotten away with kids' size, but like you, I need arches and kids shoes don't have any.

@Raine38 and I have large feet. Size 10, but to complicate the matter I have wide feet and high arches.

In one of my jobs, we were made to wear dress shoes. They were oh so very uncomfortable and yet we had to constantly walk in them. Every chance we got we took them off to let our feet rest.
I went hiking once and with a pair of shoes that made my feet ache badly. Sorry you had to ruin your budget but atleast you have a pair of shoe that will hopefully last a long time. I am picky myself about shoes.

@Raine38 I don't even go for "cuteness" I go for comfort. I might pick them out in my favorite colors but that is it. My sister is a shoe fanatic though, she has so many pairs of just tennies.

@ScribbledAdNauseum If I cannot have both, I go for the comfort and the price. With my new job, we are not required to wear dress shoes anymore. But there are times that we must wear steel toe boots which are even more expensive. Thank goodness the company reimburses us. I like flats, but they can be tricky. They look comfy but they end up being the opposite.
