Actor George Gaynes has passed away Monday in North Bend Wisconsin at the age of 98 years of age according to his daughter.
Gaynes was born George Jongejans on May 16, 1917 in Helsinki Grand Duchy of Finland. He will be best remembered for his role in all seven Police Academy movies as Commander Eric Lassard as well as his role as the situation comedy Punky Brewster as Henry Warnimont.
Gaynes started his career in movies as the PT boat case commander in the 1963 motion picture PT 109 and his role in the movies was the role of Father Robert in the 2003 motion picture Just Married.
Gaynes retired from the acting profession in 2003. Even though his name is not that familiar with me, he will be remembered for his ability to tackle comic as well as serious role in television and movies. May his soul find eternal peace at last.

Gaynes was a long time character actor whose career dates back to 1955. His widow is Allyn Ann McLerie who is a very familiar faced character actress. He lived a very long life and we all should be lucky.
