Spoiling a Perfect Record, Not a Good Start

On Tuesday morning, I had planned to go to my parents house to put out a couple more bags of trash (I had two tags), and to empty the donation bags as well as the other things I was bring home to sell on Kijiji.
Winter has finally made its appearance. Schools were closed and the police were recommending no unnecessary travel. Okay, I will stay home.
Yesterday morning, it was snowing a little so I set off.
Conditions seemed to deteriorate more with each mile I travelled. Eventually I arrived, hurray, someone had cleared the driveway! Boohoo, they had not picked up all the recycling the day before.
Carefully putting my keys in my purse, beside my slippers, I got out of the van to move the recycling. Now back to the car to get my purse and slippers.
Great! The van had somehow locked! At least I could get into the house!
Once into the house, I used the telephone to call CAA (auto club) about unlocking my car. I could give them my location and my license plate number.
The attendant wanted my membership number......It's locked in the van.....my cell phone number so they could call me back.......it's locked in the van......the number I'm at......I can call out but you can't call me
.
The service man was there within an hour, unlocked the van and I could pick up where I had left off.
This was a first for me....I could always take great pride in never having locked myself out of a vehicle before.

So true. I hav not used their services in a while, but I know that when I need them they are on their way. When my brakes failed a couple of years ago, they were on the scene quickly.

We have had CAA membership for the last 30 years. We needed to be towed, just once, and calculated that even if we only used the CAA membership once, it was well worth it. Some years it pays for itself many tims over. Other years it is a handy insurance policy.

@Morleyhunt Some years it more than paid for itself. We pay kind of a lot for it since we have it on our trailer too. But if we ever needed to be towed from a campsite or even on the highway with the trailer; we would sure be glad we had it!

That would be why I have a CAA membership. They can be awesome. One year my kids were at a New Year's Eve event, I got a call just after midnight that they had locked their keys in the car. No one had a CAA membership card with them, I gave them my number over the telephone and the service man accepted it. Then he used the same number to open at least one other locked car before heading to his next service call.

We have locked ourselves out in the past. It is no picnic.

My husband has done it several times, but for me, this was a first. Thank goodness I had a place to make the call from as well as a warm spot to wait for the CAA technician to arrive.

My key is back on the lanyard so it will be around my neck when I get out of the car. No more locking myself out.

So true...and there was also a telephone I could use. My cellphone was in the van.

It wasn't the actual being locked out of the car that was so difficult. I now needed to stay within eyeshot of the van so I would see the CAA service man arrive. I must have run up and down the stairs twenty times while waiting so that I could at least accomplish some of what I needed to do.
