Would you give money to someone to climb Mount Everest?

It cost a lot of money to climb Mount Everest. Many climbers will try to seek corporate sponsors. The corporate sponsors are more likely to give them outdoor equipment, and not cash. If your ex-colleague, classmate or relative ask you for money to climb Mount Everest, would you give it to them? The amount required is not a small amount. They need to pay for the air ticket, accommodation, visa, climbing permit, food, drinks, and the porters. They need to stop work for a few months to train too. I, for one, will not give money. I feel that as it is a personal quest, the person has to work to sponsor himself.

Since it is not a small fund, I don't want to give out my hard working money for them to climb Mount Everest. First, I also have many of my dreams and they all cost money. Second, climbing Mount Everest is dangerous and not many people can be qualified to it. Sometimes I think it is meaningless to challenge it, especially when you have a family.

@scheng1 I agree with you. A human being can't cope with the sudden nature disaster. Even if they can climb to the top of the Everest, what's the point to it?

Most climbers are qualified to climb the mountain, but nobody can predict the weather condition. Sometimes they are too confident, and the bad weather causes them their lives. Personally I think it is plain silly to pay so much to die there.

I would suspect a corporate sponsor would get something back in return but not sure how that would work?

They will not get something back in term of money or whatever. They will get publicity when the climbers use their products, reach the top of the mountain, and the photo happens to capture the logo of the backpack or gears or jacket.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I may give a small donation, if I could, but to be honest, I'm not really sure. It's not the first thing that I would probably donate money to, but I may consider it, depending on who asks.

Those who want to climb Mount Everest have to save up US$45,000 per person. I think they will think it is an insult if you just donate $10 to them. Honestly, that is the reason I do not even want to give any money. It is a waste of money to climb mountain when there is so much uses for money. At this price, they can pay the downpayment for a house in a nice location.

I wouldn't give money either. I don't ask for money to travel and don't expect friends to ask me. If someone was in trouble we would help out, but for an adventure - not a chance.

Same here. I think if they really want to go and climb Mount Everest, they have to work and pay for their trip.

No I would not give money for that. There are so many better ways to donate money

Definitely, the cost is very high. It is more than the annual take-home pay of an average person. The average cost per person to climb Mount Everest is about $45,000.
