It was a prankster and NOT my boss!

Several times this last week I've received phone calls. They will call and either leave a message that is only the sound of a beep (most likely hanging up) or they won't leave a message at all. This morning I decided to use reverse telephone look up. On my cellphone it shows the area that the call is coming from and I *think* that area is close to where my boss lives. It wasn't him though. Upon using the reverse telephone look up service, I found that the call originates from a VOIP. A VOIP or voice over internet protocol is a telephone service online, so like google phone. Apparently others in my area have had the same complaint, a call and a hang up on the machine. Has anyone else had something like this occur? I'd be interested to find out if any of my fellow North Carolinians are having this problem as well.

I don't live in North Carolina - but I get those calls all the time on my house phone. I always block them afterwards. It is quite annoying. I always research the numbers online and many also receive the same complaints.

@ScribbledAdNauseum We have caller ID. Did you end up blocking the number?

@infatuatedbby Not yet. I am hoping I can catch the phone when it's them. I want to see if it's some sort of a machine or if it's a real person.

We haven't had a landline in several years now. We used to have caller id with ours and wouldnt' answer if we didn't recognize the number. THere are several users here from NC, one from the exact city I live in. I thought it'd be something if we had received a call from the same number.

Nah. We still don't have those here. Call from syndicates are common :(

@ScribbledAdNauseum they are syndicates--real ones. That they will pretend to be a friend of the family that they are calling...that a member met an accident and have to go to the hospital and bring some big amount of money or jewelries.

@Lucky15 Oh okay I understand what you mean. That's just sad, that someone would do that. Scaring the family before they realize it's a syndicate.

That almost sounds like a fax machine. I don't think I've ever gotten a call like that but I've accidentally called the wrong number and find out it's the number for the fax machine.

No I haven't had that kind of call. But my mother said once that she had a strange call that was made around here, but it wasn't me.

I get bothered by telemarketers so often that I don't even answer my landline anymore! I hope the calls stop soon!

We haven't had a land line here in a few years now. The only annoying thing is if the call wakes me up. I could block them if I so choose but I imagine eventually they'll get tired or get caught.
