Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome on Wednesday admitted the news that if the team is not able to reach a contract extension with their current place kicker Justin Tucker before March 1, 2016, they will be placing the franchise tag on their place kicker. Tucker signed a four year contract with the Baltimore Ravens before the start of the 2012 football season as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Texas. The Ravens management is currently in negotiations with Tucker who is one of the most accurate place kickers in the history of the National Football League even though Tucker has played in the league for four seasons. The price tag to keep Tucker for seeking employment with another team in the National Football League after March 1 would be $4.5 million dollars which would give Tucker a pay raise from $2.3 million dollars which is current salary. The Ravens would be able to keep Tucker under contract for one year before he is eligible to enter the free agent market at the end of the 2016 football season. Time will tell if the Ravens will be able to reach a contract extension with Tucker before March 1, 2016 or a later date.

Thanks for this. The Ravens are my girlfriend's favorite team. She only started watching when she met me and has learned a lot, but thanks to this, I was able to explain the franchise tag.
