Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal on Friday reported the news that former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino, 35, has signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
Victorino will report to the Chicago Cubs Spring training facility in Mesa Arizona in an attempt to make the Cubs roster at the start of the 2016 Major League Baseball season in April.
Victorino has two World Series rings as a member of the 2008 Philadelphia Philles and the 2013 Boston Red Sox. Victorino would love to win his third World Series ring as a member of the Chicago Cubs that has not a World Series title since 1908.
Victorino became a free agent at the end of the 2015 baseball season when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim decided to let him test the free agent market.
Victorino had offers to sign a contract with the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers and the Cubs during the offseason.
Victorino claims he that is fully healthy and be able to work with the Cubs as a reserve outfielder during the 2016 baseball season.
One deal that Victorino has in his favor. He is a switch hitter which should increase his chances of making the Cubs roster in 2016.

The Cubs have a glut of outfielders, we need some pitching I think.

That is true. Pitching wins games for your team like the Cubs found out during the N L C S versus the Mets.

I would guess that the Cubs are interested in his veteran leadership and that he has the experience of two World Series rings. That has to be the reason because why trade away Coughlin as 5th outfielder for a player obviously at the end of the line.

That may be true since I would love to see the Cubs win a World Series before I join my Maker.

I hope so too. Victorino would be useful as a mentor to the younger players on the Cubs team.

I guess hope springs eternal in aging baseball players.

It could be his last dance in the Major Leagues if he makes it to the Cubs.
