Trying to ditch the soother

Canada

My son is 2.5 and still uses a soother. He would have never gotten one, except that when he was a few weeks old, a friend of my husband gave us soothers with my husband's favorite football team on them. Since my son was one, I have wanted to get rid of it, but my husband has not been supportive. Just a few weeks ago the last one we had ripped and I was willing to try cold turkey. No, my husband went out and bought more. Today I attempted to get him down for a nap without it. He fell asleep for me, but he woke as o tried to put him in his crib. He wouldn't go back to sleep after. Tonight we will try again.

Oh that sounds like it will be hard at that age. There are all sorts of ideas out there, to get the child to participate and throw it away themselves.

It is too bad that your husband won't co-operate with you on this. I never gave soothers to my children.

Try a little smear of toothpaste on it...
