Open Carry in Dallas doesn't seem to be such a big deal, so far.

People think that they are better off not exposing their weapon of choice to a potential criminal who may just want to challenge someone showing his or her pistol at their side in plain view.
Many people think that if you open carry you are more of a target of an aggressive person than if you conceal it where only you know where it is.
Purses are used to hold guns for women and back packs for young people and some adults You can pack a sub machine gun inside a shoulder bag or back pack so these are a real problem as more and more people are buying rifles and semi-automatics and hand guns and using clever ways to hide them from anyone's view. Now, it's highly unlikely that most of them would use their weapons for reasons to harm another or threaten another, but more so for self preservation in a world where at any moment a random act of madness could cause mass casualties in almost any city on planet Earth. The rate of gun sales has skyrocketed and that is because of the great job our mass media has done to stir up a hornet's nest.

I didn't think it would make that much of a difference. I wouldn't mind walking around in Montana with a pistol hanging down. People would know it's for rattlesnakes and bears and such. But I'd feel uncomfortable doing it in, say, Oakland.

Try doing this in Dallas or Fort Worth or Chicago or Los Angeles. OMG! what a world.

@lookatdesktop Bad guys are heavily armed in those towns, and it's hard to know what to do about it, especially with the police running scared these days.

@TheHorse The idea of a militarized police force comes to my mind.
