Hi all, I am going to be gone from my own home with all its books and visiting my mother in hospital. She used to have rooms and rooms of books but of course we gave them all away when she moved out. Anyway, I have a Kindle app on my device and I would like some suggestions. I love British children's novels from the 1800s up through the war, books about children who are creative and different, books about animals (not depressing ones but interesting ones). I like science fiction. I like older books for children or teens. I like books about other cultures, especially novels set in other cultures. I DO NOT like romance novels or mysteries or recent adult literature. OK, ... go!

I hope you get some good suggestions. There was one about America in the era of the Great Depression that I have read but I can't remember the name of it off hand. If I remember it later I'll come back and post it here for you to look up.

I can sympathize with you going where there are no books. Have you read "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr. It is a novel but has a lot of history in in. I really enjoyed it and I am sure it is available on Kindle
