There are ways to store large amounts of plastic grocery bags for re-use.

I have a box from Amazon that is very tall but narrow. It can fit easily in the corner of the room. It has 4 flaps and all I really need to do is use tape on one edge to keep it closed. I can possibly fit a year's amount of grocery plastic bags in it for storage until I need some. I find it better to save these than to discard them They can be used over and over again. I have used these to put flour in and shake chicken pieces. It's not a bad thing to have around for everyday use.

That's the ticket. Knowing that some stores re-use bags is a good thing however, they don't allow it in certain Dallas stores because of the possible chance of cross contamination from re-used sacks however most stores offer large drums to recycle plastic bags, for instance, Kroger does this in Dallas.
