Day 14 – Mocked and Despised Job 12-14 Nobody likes it when their ideas and way of life come under such scrutiny they feel they are under a microscope. Then when the results of their peers bring a backlash of insults and mockery, they feel despised and inferior for doing good and just being alive and doing it. Job speaks out against his friends, and lets them know he isn’t inferior to them. He justifies himself before God and asks for God to answer him and the charges that are laid before him. One thing he notes is something we all see. People who obtain their wealth by illegal gain also treat God with disdain. The rich get richer while the poor get poorer. Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun. We certainly see that when we look around us and see those things Job mentioned about people mocking those who walk closely with God, are different from them, and trust God to take care of them. Like his friends, they mock and despise Christians as well. As Christians we need to focus our lives on Jesus, and remember he was also despised and rejected, yet he still went to the cross for our salvation. Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (KJV) Job told his friends he wasn’t inferior to them, but his hope and trust was in God. When you are treated with insults from those around you, how do you respond? Do you hold firmly to your faith, or do you sit on the fence and go with the tide? As Christians, we will always be bullied into believing the same way as the rest of society. It’s hard to live in a world so against Christians, yet we are called to do just that. We are called to stand strong and focus our lives on God and Jesus, his Son, our Savior. When we do, God will do the rest. Job counted on God, so should we count on God. Remember God cannot be mocked. Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. What do you want to reap? Let’s pray: Father, help me keep my focus on you and not on what the world would have me do and say to be like them. Keep my feet planted firmly in you in everything I say and do. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 3 March 2016 by Valerie Jean Routhieaux All scripture is King James Version, edited by me into common English. Image courtesy of Pixabay
