The Longest Time I've Went Without Sleep

The longest I've done is 48 hours because I happened to have 4 exams lined up back to back from Monday to Thursday. That faithful day, I stayed up to study and blacked out for 2 hours before I woke up in a panic (thank god I woke up as I still had material to cover and haven't set an alarm). The effects of sleep deprivation include cognitive and memory impairment, weight gain, increased risk of heart disease and diabetes, weakened immune response, moodiness, depression and accidental death. What's the longest time you've gone without slumber?

I suffered from insomnia, but I don't think I went that long without maybe an hour a night at least. It sucked big time getting that little sleep for weeks at a time. I could only imagine going 48 hours with no sleep.

@Ladypeace Yeah, insomnia can suck, you are right, since it is over a course of time.

@enlightenedpsych2 my insomnia comes and goes. Luckily I have been sleeping like a baby for a couple months now. Hoping it continues

I think that having insomnia intermittently for weeks is worse than my short stint of 48 hours. It's terrible to feel sleepy and being in a state of being unable to fall asleep.

I guess for me it's just overnight , because we partied until the wee hours of the morning . When we got home (my gay cousin and i ) we ate breakfast , then we went to our respective rooms and slept until afternoon.

a whole week, My fiancee and I broke up and I believe I was more hurt than her because she easily moved on and marry someone else who looks ugly as a bulldog and was old enough to be her father. #bitter

Sounds really hurtful. It must've been a big dowse to find out the poor quality of your ex's groom. She really wasn't worth that whole week of sleep loss.

@Ladypeace I already moved on but I wont be dating for now. I want to have great savings for my future before trying to settle down again.

The feeling is bad if lack sleep. I had this longest whole evening no sleep when I edited my first Masteral thesis .I noticed that it was already morning when the rays of the sun spread on the ground.I had a terrible eye-bag,

Yass...it feels nasty to stay up all night! My eyes looked like a panda with bulging dark eyes and I felt light headed and weak.

Insomnia is terrible. I've watched a bbc documentary about sleep and this viet war veteran had a serious case of it and doesn't go beyond 3 hours of sleep every night despite taking medication. There's things that people can do to obtain a better quality of sleep.

I never do that before an examination. I always sleep very well before an examination. I know that my subconscious works better when i am alert in learning. if I sleep well, I can recall facts better.

Yes, despite knowing that I couldn't help it. I prepared ahead for the exam but had to stay up to cramp it all in my memory as each test was scheduled back to back. I took 4 tests consecutively from Monday to Thursday.

I think a day and half max? I never really counted the hours but I have trouble sleeping at times.

I think we'd have experienced trouble sleeping at some points in our life because of various reasons. And it's important to catch up on the sleep we've lost.

I sleep for about three hours daily because there are things I have to do online at night and these takes much of my time. In day time hours, I take short naps to cover for wasted sleeping time. I don't wanna have heart attack or so because of my bad sleeping patterns.

I see, online work has kept you up at night and naps are crucial for fixing that.

I remember the time without sleep. it was like 3 days. It's not easy to get some good sleep. it mostly makes stomach issues and also later some acne issues. from there i realized the benefit of sleep. i force myself to sleep everyday for 7 hours.

3 days without sleep is a long time. I'm glad that you're making the effort to get sufficient sleep.

It's not healthy to sleep so little. in my case, it made me impatient and not on the mood at every situation. not to mention weight gain too.

That's true, lack of sleep messes our mind and bodies up. I wouldn't play with fire.

20 hours is still considered long because I'm usually tired by the 14 hour mark.

If I'm not mistaken, it was 27 hours. I was about to sleep but then another client with a different time zone as mine had some tasks for me and he wants the output delivered after few hours. I had to keep myself awake and finish the project. After sending it, I had like a day of sleep. Lucky enough, the client was satisfied and he didn't ask for revision of my work.

Job well done! There's no better feeling than pushing out good work at crunch time. Yeah, after my all nighter I slept for 18 hours.

In my case it was roughly three days. I was young back then, very energetic, and very addicted to a certain computer game. Since the game involved a lot of competition, meaning that time was everything, I then proceeded to gather materials and improve my character for three days. I have never done it again afterwards. Somehow now that I am a bit older I can't go without sleep. I love sleep too much now.

That's a whole lot of dedication for a game. But it's understandable given how exciting and addictive games are. I've stayed up 24 hours leveling my character in a game before when I was younger. And true, now that I'm older and working, I can't go without at least 8 hours of sleep.
