The Most Spoiled Dog

I'm baby sitting my mother's dog and he is really spoiled. He doesn't eat his meal and the insists that you feed him snacks. After a while, because he is really hungry he intensifies the begging when he has a bowl full of chicken pieces, some wet dog food and some dry dog food. He doesn't want any of it. Just the sugar.
Well, spoiled dog will learn that with me around it's eat your food or go hungry. I'm okay with one or two snacks, but a steady demand for it is not tolerated.

Our little girl sometimes does that. We starve her for a day and all is well after that

@allknowing He's a big dog, he can stand a little pushing from time to time. He's 100 pounds (45.5kg).

Well after I pushed him out of the kitchen last night (away from the snack area) he sulked on the couch until it was time to go out for the night. I put his food dish in the pen with him. If he gets hungry he can eat that.

@OneOfMany well I guess that depends on how long you have him, it's not impossible to retrain a dog, or recondition them with food and such but it takes time and consistency

Well I worry about his health. His mother became a diabetic from her diet.

That sounds like finnicky a cat in a dog's body.

It might be. He has a number of toys and expects to be pampered.

@CaptAlbertWhisker He has a pen with a box where there's a door on the back where we can get in to change the blankets. There used to be three dogs, so now as the last one, he has a dog box all to himself.

It's probably because my parents are tired and he begs and gets his way so they don't have to bother with him. I'm not likely to break. He's pouting on the couch right now.

@OneOfMany It is really funny to look at them when they have the most sorrowful look.

@Hatley He lowers his head and it's a rather shameful beg. He knows he shouldn't be asking, but he still thinks being cute will get him what he wants.

Pets are like toddlers ... they always know how to twist their parents around their little fingers!

I'm not so nice to toddlers either. I treat everyone like they are mature enough to know better! To me knowledge is something that has lighter limits as well. I don't hold back in explanations, and I never use baby talk, because that inhibits learning.

yes be fi rm and he will finally get the idea of eating his food too a lot of what we eat s not good for dogs I have stopped fr iends from letting their dogs eat chocolate pudding or candy as chocolate c ontains an element that c an make a dog ill or even die.

Well chocolate seems to be nothing to our dogs. They have never had issues eating it. Although I never feed any to him. He likes milk and butter. Anything related is his poison.
