The Conman Sold Him a City Clock, This is How it Went down..

My friend was fresh from the village. He came to Nairobi to look for a job, but before that he had to familiarize himself with the big city. At one time, he went to Nairobi town to walk about.. see new things and to make sure he was good to go for the job in the CBD. While he was walking on the busy Nairobi streets, he saw a hawker selling wrist watches and wall clocks. Amazingly the unlicensed city trader was standing, leaning on the city clock... calling for customers. Great! This buddy of mine went ahead and inquired about the price of his biggest clock he had. He pointed at the city clock that was accurately ticking away... Oops! The trader said the clock goes for only two thousand shillings (about $20). With a big smile, a friend of mine paid for it instantly.. The watch vendor, told this friend of mine to wait for a ladder since someone was just on the way there. Then, someone shouted 'Kanjo! Kanjo! (literally meaning the county askaris were coming to arrest the illegal city traders), and the man who had pocketed two thousand shilling ran off and got lost into the crowded Nairobi. Damn! What a long day that was....

How sad for your friend. I would always be leery of people selling things like that on the street.

Yep, sometimes people learn the hard way and I guess he was unfortunate to fall under that category. Personally, I do not like buying things from people on the streets.

@simone10 That is the reality, unless someone is like a gambler in life.

@waflay I have learned some lessons the hard way myself. But once you learn, you can never be fooled again.
