I bought an item with a mail in rebate today. Do you guys still buy items with mail in rebate offers? Usually you have to pay upfront first then submit a mail in rebate via mail or online (your choice) then in about 4-6 weeks you'll *maybe* get a check or visa card. Typically it'll end up being cheap or even free. I received my $20 voucher from ink recycling from Staples and one thing I always stock up on is their 1 cent promotion for paper. You have to pay $5.80 up front first for the paper but, you will get back $5.79 via visa card. Staples is always reliable for their mail in rebates! I heard some companies aren't always reliable when getting your money back for the mail in rebates or it'll take quite some time. Essentially in the end the pack of paper is only a penny.

Once I bought snow tires and it took over a year to get the rebate and I had to hound them a number of times. It was very disappointing but I did not give up till I got it. I don't like to cheated.

Yes I completely agree! I wrote you'll *maybe* get a check or visa because not all stories are always successful. I am glad you eventually got your rebate for those snow tires! So far, I have had success at a tire place along with Staples. I don't often buy items with rebates because of the time it'd take.

@infatuatedbby I like companies to keep their promises and will not give up till I get what they promise. Once someone borrowed $5 from me and promised to give it back. He never gave it back but I'll never lend him even a dollar. It was not the $5 that I was concerned about but that he promised to repay it and I expected him to repay it. It would have been better that he had asked me to give him $5. It would have been forgotten. I always feet that a promise must be kept.

@infatuatedbby Oh yes, I speak with him but I am still waiting for the $5. But it has been so many years. He has forgotten all about it. By now the $5 because of inflation is equal to $500.

We often get mail in rebates and never had a problem. If I do, I would complain to the company.

I never had any problems with mail in rebates also. But it does say in fine print - limited time offer and may end at any time.

Yes, I buy stuff with mail in rebates. It is worth waiting 4-6 weeks for the rebate. I have waited six months for the rebate to arrive.

I remember having similar rebates off the printer I bought several years ago from a similar office supply store as Staples.

I've only done a few of these, but I've had pretty good luck with them.

I have not but my sister received a 300 dollar rebate and like you said it too took her about 5 months to receive, My brother said it is because they were trying to make as much interest off the rebate while they could. While it seems like they would not make that much.I also can see this mentality. Anything to save or make a buck.

Yes - they will use the money first then provide later is what I heard. But getting back the money even in 5 months is better to save than no money.

My mom used to be a huge fan of mail in rebates. I don't think we do them any more though. Now we just use coupons which gives us instant savings.

Yes instant coupons is better. Mail in rebates aren't that common anymore in my opinion.

I will have to see if they ever have that paper deal here. I have occasionally done a mail in rebate.
