Week of Joy

Listening to a radio station on my way to work this morning, I heard the DJ's mentioning this week being a "week of joy," and discussing all the things they were doing to bring joy to the people they come across throughout their everyday lives. I thought about how cool that was, but then quickly forgot about it as I went about my work day.
Around lunch time, I had to run to Lowe's Home Improvement Store to pick up some supplies for a renovation project we are working on at one of our swimming pools. As I was ready to check out, I got in line behind two other people. As I was standing there, I realized I had to go to the bathroom really bad, so I asked the guy standing in line in front of me if he would watch my cart while I went to the bathroom. He agreed and off I went.
When I returned, he was being helped by the cashier, and sure enough, he had my cart right there with him. I thanked him and took my place in line behind him. As he went to pay, his debit or charge card was declined. He tried it again. Declined. I could see a look of worry on his face, a surprised look like he didn't understand why his card was being declined.
Wanting to thank him for watching my cart while I went to the bathroom, I told the cashier I would pay for his bill for him. It was only $40, and it would save him the embarrassment of not being able to pay for his merchandise due to his declined card.
He thanked me profusely, and I told him that since he helped me, I helped him, and now we were even.
It wasn't until I was walking out to my truck in the parking lot afterward that I remembered it being a "week of joy." I smiled to myself, and hoped that I was able to provide some joy to the guy I helped.

I am certain that you brought considerable joy to this man. What a wonderful gesture Jeff. There have been times when I wish I could have helped people out like that.
Aldi charges a quarter to "rent" their shopping carts. You get the quarter back when you return it to the corral. I have gifted my cart to another shopper. You would have thought I gave them a gold coin when I refused their quarter and told them not to worry about it

Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most to people. A little kindness goes a long way!

He was very appreciative. I just told him to pay it forward to someone else when he got the chance.

That's sweet. Last year an elderly woman asked me if she could have two dollars. I gave her dollars. It made me feel good to do it.

Someone else did the same thing for me at Disney this past Christmas. I had linked my credit card to my Magic Band, so that as I need to pay for things at the theme park I could just wave my magic band, instead of having to pull out my wallet and credit card overtime I needed to use it. For some reason, it didn't work the first time I tried it, which is when we were in a long line one morning to pay for breakfast. I very nice British lady saw the trouble I was having, and stepped in and told the cashier she was paying for our meals. That was really nice of her, saved me a lot of embarrassment, and kept everyone in line from getting mad at me for holding up everything.

@VivaLaDani13 It made me happy too! I was able to enjoy my breakfast, instead of having to go fight with Disney over why my Magic Band didn't work! That's not fun to do on an empty stomach, but thankfully I got to go deal with them on a full stomach!
