Negative people

Will negative people just ne negative? Or is there any use for talking them straight? I encounter many people who are super negative about their lives, super crabby and it is a toxic and contagious thing. One of these people is unfortunately my own father, who loves to run the "i hate my job" gauntlet all the time. Luckily I do not see him all that often, otherwise I would really be annoyed. It is not as though he is looking for another job either. But that is just one way that he is negative. Do you think negativity is a choice? (Same with positivity - do you think that is a choice?)

i think some people are just like that. My father-in-law is the laziest and most negative person I've met. He just hates life in general. I don't really like being around him, and very few people like being with him. He's just that kind of guy. I don't know if he's negative by choice or not, but it's just who he is.

That is frustrating, especially since it sounds like for you, its not someone you can just necessarily avoid since he is family.

@maezee,One thing I know about myself very well is that I am not a negative person.I love my workplace and the job I do there. In fact,I love taking every negative turn that comes in my life positively and consider it a chance to transform it into a positive opportunity.

That is totally me too. I like to look at frustrating things as a chance to change. I definitely work at staying positive - its not always easy. Cant other people try? I am glad you are a positive person. It makes life so much more enjoyable!

@maezee Sometimes it seems difficult, even impossible, but with persistence it becomes a part of your nature. When this happens, being negative becomes difficult.

It is a choice and a terrible habit that's hard to break.

Yes indeed! Apparently. When I feel down I just try to think of all the ways I am lucky and doing well in life and that seems to work.

I don't dwell with people who are pessimistic. It is not healthy to stay with them.

Me neither. It brings me down a little bit.

I don't know if it's a choice but I know people who are much more negative than positive. I am an election judge in Illinois. Our primaries are this coming Tuesday. I am working with another election judge who just complains constantly. I am bringing a book so I can block her out.

Good deal! I think if it was a coworker that would be my solution also. What a cool job by the way!

@maezee It's a long day on election day but I have been an election judge for 4 years now and love doing it.
