business Objects has been a laggard for many years in the field of business Intelligence. But, recently with the release of its XI and then XI R2 versions in the Crystal reports and business Objects respectively it has claimed a greater proportion of the BI market. Its latest version has lots of features which enticed the BI developers and Designers towards it and which made the lots of new customers adding to the list of BO. business Objects has changed the look and feel in the latest releases of its key softwares i.e. Crystal reports and business Objects. They have added all the best and easy to use and implement features in the latest releases to support its development and designer customers. In the past versions the content was good but was not easy to implement. But, with the increasing competition in the BI field and increasing shares of the competitors like Microstrategy, Cognos, Hyperion and Microsoft, business Objects decided to revamp their whole arsenal and present to the customers one of its own kind softwares in the shape of business Objects XI R2. They have combined the features of the best data modelling in the Universe Designer tool, with the excellent elegant reporting tool Desktop Intelligence (Deski) and their strong point appeared in the shape of the Web Intelligence (Webi) which follows the web development concept. It gives a great control over the development and then easy deployment of the reports which can be accessed under very secure environment on web. The infoview has been enabled with the two components i.e. Java and dot net which are two biggest and equal competitors existing in the development and the deployment practice all over the world. It gives the freedom to the clients to choose their own environment for the deployment. With the latest release BO has introduced and changed the concept of the Administration as well by the inclusion of the Admin launchpad tool which gives the Admin user a great deal of command on his server administration and user management. With this tool the Admin can easily view the server performance and activity of the specified users and can control the utilisation of the server and its specific resources. Reporting and analysis part of BO XI R2 comes with the lots of the tools and concepts like slice and dice, scope analysis, Drill through, Sorting, List of values and cascading list of values, functions and variables, @Prompt and @variable functions. All these features add a great value to the reporting tool which delivers the best results in less time. CMS is another component which was there in the earlier versions as well but with the latest release it has also changed into a robust and easy to configure and administer tool.
