Internet Woes

March 10, 2016 Once again, I have no internet at home. I can't afford to have my own contract and the next door neighbor has been allowing me to use theirs, which I can do from my house. It's been wonderful to have 24/7 access but now the party's over. They became skittish about letting me use it, and I heard the phrase "breach of contract" more than once in our most recent conversation about it. So now I'm back to using the free wifi at the Senior Center a short drive away, or at the deli or at the video rental place, both in the strip mall next door to my trailer park. It's a good thing in a couple of ways, my losing the all-day-all-night access. For one thing, it gets me off my bum and out into the world. The other thing is, I'm more productive, organized, structured in my daily life now. The senior center closes at 5pm and if I want more hours online, I have to go to the deli or to the noisy video store. I'm just thankful that I have some access, even if it isn't so convenient.

My neighbours used my internet connection for about 6 months prior to have their own connected arranged. There is no real problem involved in such an arrangement, providing that the other user does not use the access for illegal activities.

Well, all I can say is my use is on the up&up. Mum's the word in regard to what the neighbor might (or might not) be doing.

@blitzfrick I naturally assumed that you were using it responsibly, which would suggest that there was no reason for them to cut off the connection to you. The term "breach of contract" serves no purpose in this situation because NAT enabled has been standard for over a decade now.

We are glad that you are able to maintain access too. It is good to get out and move.

I think it's really better for me this way, no matter what happens down the line. It was nice in the winter to be able to stay out of the weather and enjoy the internet at home, though. But I find that I'm getting much more done, now that my internet time is more limited. Seems like a winning situation, so far.

These neighbors have hearts of gold. But you know, people are people. They were afraid of unforeseen consequences.

At least you do have some access. I do use the library for internet sometimes. We would not be able to let someone use our internet because we already have to be careful to avoid going over our usage.

My phone (not a smart phone) is on a primitive basic plan. I pay monthly for unlimited text and talk, but have nothing else on my plan. So no internet that way.
