Are you in debt?

It seems like everyone has to be in debt these days just to survive, have a house, that sort of thing. Right now, I have student loans and some credit card debt.

It can be so hard to look at, huh? It takes so long to get out of debt once you get into it - we've been working on it for a year now.

Yeah, we're plugging away at it, and the end seems very far off. Some months it seems like our debt actually doesn't get any smaller. Some of our debt is because of unemployment, but some of it is just stupid indulgences.

Some debt is to be expected. Very few people can pay cash for a housr or a car. If you want an education so you can get a decent job, you are going to have to take out student loans since financial does not actually cover the cost of school (college attendance costs are rising at 5 times the rate of inflation, that is so wrong). However, other debts you can avoid. Don't buy the computer, the washer/dryer, the whatever until you can pay cash. Definitely do not fall for the "no interest until" x date thing unless you can actually pay it off by that date. If you can't the interest is retroactive to the date of purchase.

Yeah, so many people fall for the no interest until x thing.

I have a huge loan from an RV that was upside down on the loan. Then with my husband out of work for a month, that set us back further. Along with a lot of medical debts. It is very hard to live these days. The cost of living is way too high. Blessings, M&M

It's very hard to make ends meet, and if you have any debt, then it just doesn't seem like you can get ahead, huh?

We have just consolidated our debt into one personal loan so it frees the money up a bit as we are trying to save aenough money for a deposit on a house.

How exciting. We are going to start saving for a house as soon as we pay everything off.

I was - at one point - about $25,000 in debt. After I got it all payed off, I will never again use lines of credit, get a credit card etc. If you can't afford to do something on your income, don't until you can. That's the best advice I can give :).

Thing is, you can get out of debt easily if you just apply a few basic principles to how you tackle them all. There is an article about how to do this here and it really really does work. http://www.gomestic.com/Personal-Finance/Managing-your-Debts,-a-common-sense-approach.8606

We are working on getting out of debt. We have house mortgage and car payment. We are paying off our credit cards and have not used them for many many years now. I will never use a credit card again. They can get you in trouble and you dont know it till you are in so deep. They do this by adding late fees and higher interest rates so you cant afford to pay them off.

Personally I am not, but my husband is. We went on a trip to Prince Edward Island, and returned via the States. We have already paid half of it, and the other half that is still on the credit card, will be paid possibly the next time we get the credit card bill. Our house, car, Tv, stereo, dvd player and all the goodies are now paid for. I was in debt quite a number of years ago, and just got rid of it about ten years or so ago. I do not keep track of things, sorry. I am so terrified of being in debt, that I usually transfer money into my credit card account just in case something comes up and I have to use my credit card.

As for me I would say, I am neck-deep in debts. Loan repayments, credit card dues, lack of funds to maintain the family ....it's debts galore. Maybe I.ll be saved soon.

Like everyone else we have the usual suspect bills each months and bebts that are unavoidable. Fortunately the car is apid off as are all student loans. We jusy have a credit card that we use and I would like to get tha debt down to nothing. With purchasing plane tickets and so forth for a large family, we need a credit card and from that perspective one single transaction can be quite pricey. We are very aware of interest rates and so forth though so always try to pay as much off each month as we can to minimize the simple waste through interest.
