The Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday have signed former Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim third baseman David Freese to a one year contract. The financial terms of his contract were not released by the Pirates organization. Freese became a free agent when his contract with the Angels expired at the end of the 2015 baseball season. Freese will be role player with the Pirates during the 2016 baseball season. Due to the knee injury that has placed on the sidelines third baseman Jung Ho Kang who will not be ready to play baseball until the middle or late April, Freese will be his replacement as third base at the start of the 2016 baseball season. Freese was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 National League Championship Series and the 2011 World Series when he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.

I was gonna say, wasn't he the one who went off in the World Series a few years back?

According to Wikipedia he did win the Most Valuable Player in both the 2011 NLCS and 2011 World Series against my Texas Rangers.

@Deepizzaguy - I haven't followed as closely as usual. Is Ron Washington still the Rangers manager? I like him.

@teamfreak16 Ron resigned in 2014 due to a personal issue with his marriage which included an affair.

I wondered what happened to Freese after the Angels didn't resign him. I am glad they didn't because he was a bust with very mediocre numbers considering the money paid him. So he is now a backup.

Yunel Escobar will replace him at third base in 2016.

@JohnRoberts I like the Angels since former Major League Baseball infielder Rod Carew played for them.
