1993 DC – spoiler alerts
One of the strangest and darkest forays into Gaiman’s incredible Morpheus the dream lord realm.
It begins in our own dream called reality, where Barbie, ex-wife to Ken, and possibly living incarnation of the doll, is now living in a run-down New York Apartment with a transsexual woman, and a young witch.
When Barbie is sucked through her dreams into a seemingly fantasy realm created by her own evil inner child, her friends embark on an arduous quest to find Morpheus but does he care? Does Barbie need rescue or do her friends need rescuing from her?
A complex weave of imagery spanning multiple dimensions between our World and a crumbling Narnia style fantasy realm where a dream due to be retired resists its fate in the subconscious mind, sending out ripples that alter our own reality, if it is a reality.
Dark, mature fantasy, often using violent imagery such as a serial killer’s peeled face pinned to a wall offering doom-laden prophesies.
Author Gaiman employs many of Comicdom’s greatest artists, including Brian Talbot.
