Day 25 – Our Worth Job 25 Job 25:1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, 2 Dominion and fear are with him, he makes peace in his high places. 3 Is there any number of his armies? And upon whom doth not his light arise? 4 How then can man be justified with God? Or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? 5 Behold even to the moon, and it shines not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. 6 How much less man, that is a worm? And the son of man, which is a worm? Honeyed words spoken with a silken tongue sound good when we first hear them. We hear a lot of those especially now with presidential races going on in the US and the Philippines. We hear, we see, and then we need to weigh those words not take them at face value. Bildad has one of those silken tongues we need to be watchful of. He would have Job believe he doesn’t matter to God because he is nothing but worm food. He would have him believe that nothing in the universe can measure up to God’s expectations. When God created the universe, he said it was good. Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. (KJV) So Bildad was wrong – the stars are pure in God’s sight. Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. When God made man in his image, he said it was very good, not just good. David knew how precious we are in God’s sight. Psalm 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visit him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor. (KJV) In God’s hierarchy we are just below the angels of heaven. We aren’t worm food, well we are when we die, but not while we live. Satan would have us believe we are nothing to God. However, God’s promises to us show us he values us above everything else on earth because he gave us dominion over everything on earth. As Christians, Satan comes at us from all sides throwing circumstances our way that would have us crumbling in despair. However, it also causes us to fall on our knees, seeking God’s help against Satan’s onslaught. When you hear those honeyed words spoken with a silken tongue, consider the source, and weigh the words and turn your heart to God for his direction in all things. God really does value us, and promises to take care of us. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for your consideration of me, for loving me and taking care of me when Satan comes against me. Help me to remember I am not worm food, but I am your creation, made in your image, a little lower than the angels. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.
