Day 26 – Understanding Job 26 From the time we’re born we learn. People pour knowledge into us so we can understand how things operate. Job asked several questions. Job 26:1 But Job answered and said, 2 How hast thou helped him that is without power? How save thou the arm that hath no strength? 3 How hast thou counseled him that hath no wisdom? And how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is? 4 To whom hast thou uttered words? And whose spirit came from thee? Job replied directly to Bildad, answering his short speech, and showed that his words were just words, nothing more. His last question asked where he got his words from because they weren’t from God. When someone takes us to task as Bildad and Job’s other friends had done, we too have questions. In everything Job had gone through they did not take the time to empathize with Job. They did not once put themselves in his place, but instead upbraided him and tried to get him to confess a sin that did not exist. People tend to puff themselves up as they put someone down, acting as though they are better than the other person is, striking when that person is down and out, or so they think. Job was never down and out. He had always put his faith and trust in God. He had directed his statements to God, not to his friends, wanting to know the reason behind the affliction he was going through. Only here did Job direct his questions directly to Bildad and basically asked him – Who do you think you are? Don’t we do the same? When someone tries to ‘help’ us who hasn’t a clue or understanding about what is going on, don’t we shake our heads at them and tell them they don’t know what they are talking about? Job continued his discourse by showing God’s power and glory. Job 26:5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof. 6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering. 7 He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth upon nothing. 8 He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. 9 He holds back the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud upon it. 10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. 11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof. 12 He divides the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smites through the proud. 13 By his Spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. 14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of his power who can understand? This is God and who can understand him? He made everything. Yet we question his power. Hell is open before him. Nothing can hide from his presence. God’s understanding is beyond our own. Yet we presume to know all things. 1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. We need to take a moment and just stand still and quietly reflect on who God is and what he has done for us. We will never fully understand God until we see him face to face and then we still won’t be able to grasp his full nature. It is too wonderful for our limited understanding. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for showing me that though I know you, I only know you in part. My knowledge is limited. Help me understand it isn’t me but you who has all knowledge and I am only a child in your presence. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Yes, I don't think we'll ever understand an omnipresent omniscient entity. Our understanding is limited by our experience.

Not many people realize God has been with us since the day that we were born.
