In July of 2014 the roomie wanted a hamster. She already had a rather elderly dwarf hamster, a viscous thing that would rather bite you than look at you. This hamster had already murdered one of her sisters and had trying to kill the other one. Since November of 2014 she had just had Diego, a regular or "Syrian" hamster, since the viscous one had died shortly after she had broken her hip. So, this hamster was about 20-21 months old, and, now, an elderly hamster. For the last month, she had known Diego was on her last legs... so to speak. (Yes, we know Diego is a male name, we were told when she bought her that she was a male.) Sometime during the night Diego passed away. However, she couldn't afford to dwell on it, and didn't check on her until after her cataract surgery this morning. I took her outside and buried her in one of our planters, since she can't lean over because of her cataract surgery. She's already set up the cage for the next hamster.

We went out this evening and the roomie got another one. Turns out that the store doesn't get the hamsters until they are 3 months old, so that would make Diego 2 years.

@TiarasOceanView Haven't named him (she's pretty sure he's a "he" this time) yet, the roomie wants to give her great-nephew a chance to pick a name.

A new hamster was acquired this evening. The roomie said she just couldn't stand the sight of the empty cage.
