I planned to grill some fish for our lunch today. So, after attending the 6:30am Sunday mass, I went to the nearby town to buy some fish at their market. After roaming around the wet market, I finally decided to buy from an old woman. She sells fresh and big milkfish and tilapia, bigger than those fish of the other vendors. I had seen that the tilapia were still breathing at that time. She asked me how much am I going to buy. I said 2 and she thought it's 2 kilograms. I said, no, I will just buy 2 pieces of tilapia, and I pointed at the big ones. It was 900 grams for the two, and it's P90.00 or about $2.00. After putting those in a plastic bag, I asked her how about those milkfish. She said it's P130 per kilo. That was also the price when I was with my mother, so I chose two pieces again. It was almost one kilogram and she said it's P125 or $2.78. I asked the seller to remove the bile of those fish, and I told her it's for grilling. I also asked her to put those parts that she removed in a plastic bag because I will take it home for our cats and dogs. I paid for those fish then went home. Where do you buy your fish? At the supermarket or at the wet market?

I prefer buying at the wet market as the fish tends to be really fresh but at times it gets to be hard to be there at 6 in the morning. That was a good deal you had on the fish!

Yes... most of the fish at the supermarket are already frozen or chilled and some are there for how many days. Unlike those at the wet market.

Really Ate? You enjoy removing their bile? When I try to remove it, sometimes I am successful but sometimes, I have a hard time locating it. That's why I just let the seller remove it for me especially if I am in a hurry. =)

we don't have a "wet" market, and I guess if I really wanted extremely fresh fish I could go to Quality Seafood, but I actually normally get my fish frozen at the supermarket. I don't eat that much to begin with.

@brokenbee my mom used to get shrimp there, but I don't think I've ever been in there except with her.

Oh, okay. Yup, it is also convenient to get them from the supermarket. I think they also freeze it as soon as they were caught so they are also almost fresh. =) It is good you have that Quality Seafood where you can buy those fresh ones.

I bought 2 kilos boneless fish good for Holy Week. I just bought in the wet market near the sea boats arrived from fishing.

I don't cook here in my place so I don't buy one unless it's a cooked fish. But, at my parents' house, they buy it at the wet market. It's cheaper compared to those sold at the supermarket.

Yes, it is really cheaper at the wet market. It is also where you can find fresh fish. Most of the fish at the supermarket are already frozen or chilled.

I buy our fish at the supermarket but for some reason I no longer like most fish except for salmon, tuna and lobster.

I rarely buy fish these days, last time mom ask me to buy one was many years ago and kept asking me to have them chopped. I like the grill ones but don't know how to cook them.

Yup, sometimes my grilled fish turns black. LOL It is burnt. Whoa! That is why I try not to put much charcoal, but I also make sure that it is cooked very well. I don't want to see blood in my fish.

ahahaha no, just the tilapia. Hihihi! I think they can stay alive out of the water for a longer time than the bangus.

Oh yes, I think that is the best place to buy fish. And the price are way less than when they are already brought to the market or supermarket.

I always buy at the wet market especially early in the morning. Fresh fish tastes a lot better. They got that sweeter taste compared to an old catch. I once bought a fish in a department store and they stink of plastic bag. Good thing is that I just buy just enough for one cooking.
