Can you tell if a person who is smiling is sad in the eyes?

I can look directly into someone's eyes and tell if they are happy, sad or bored or even angry or excited.
Can you?
Remember that show, 'Lie to me' ? where a man was able to tell if anyone was lying based on their facial expressions?
This show was taken off the air and thus is no longer available on television in my area. But if you ever get the chance to see this show or another called 'The Mentalist' , you will probably enjoy watching them.
But my basic question to you is, can you read a person's state of emotions by looking directly at them and reading his or her feelings this way? I can.
The problem with texting or phoning or chatting with others, you really can't get their true self as you would only be able to do so when up close and personal, you know what I'm saying?

Well I dont usually make much eye contact these days, but when I did Anthony, oh yes indeed, I was very adept at reading people.
I learned to do this sadly by living with someone I had to run from on a constant basis. It saved my life as I was able to know beforehand by the look.

Some people are very aware that others can read them in other words, feel them, so to speak, and put up a poker face to hide behind. or smile when they are actually sad or angry.
