Psalm 2 Psalm 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. 10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. We have seen or heard about angry demonstrations when people are outraged about what is happening around them. In many cases, people are hurt or killed in such demonstrations. Satan set himself up as ruler of this world and sets people against God. He threatens to break God’s hold over his people and cause them to turn their backs on him. However, God knows who are his and scorns Satan’s attempts to destroy his kingdom, a kingdom that cannot be destroyed. Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. God promised a Savior and fulfilled that promise in his Son, Jesus. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection he defeated Satan so that we have the opportunity to accept him as Savior and Lord. When we do, God sits in heaven and laughs at Satan’s inability to destroy what he set up at the foundation of the world. One day this psalm will see complete fulfillment when Jesus comes to rule and reign on earth, and Satan is cast forever into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone, and then will we ever be with the Lord. Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Knowing Satan’s end, we have nothing to fear from any of his threats. God will have the last laugh, and we will be with Jesus forever and Satan will not be able to do anything more to us because he will be cast from the earth. Our duty then is to serve the Lord with gladness and come into his tabernacle with thanksgiving, rejoicing because he has everything under control. Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. We have nothing to fear from someone who has already been defeated. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for keeping your promise and sending Jesus to be my Savior. Help me remember Satan is defeated through Jesus’ death and resurrection and I have nothing to fear from him. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 21 March 2016 by Valerie Jean Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

This seems to be the perfect psalm to "kick off" the week of Easter.

Yes it is. It's considered a Messianic psalm.

The Hebrew word for "anointed" in vs 2 is Mashiach, that is Messiah. For those curious, the Greek term used in the common translation of the day, the one the early Church used (Septuagint) has the word Christos, the New Testament's term. In the book of Acts, Peter quotes this Psalm when he and the other believers were praying for boldness.
