Do You Earn Money With Your Own Website?

I am thinking of creating my own website to share the knowledge about the things that I already know about and the knowledge and experience which I may gain. I was thinking also, I c an place adsense adds on it to create a stream of passive income. Would like to know if this method has proven well for anyone else? I know it won't earn me a fulltime paycheck but at least it would be another stream of income. Also I would love to find out where are some good websites which are easy to create a website.
