l was sitting out of my apartment, a car came with a woman, man and 5 children all squeezed in this tiny car.Right away l could see the kids were tired and hungry and l felt so sorry for them. The woman asked for directions and l said sorry l don't know, then l asked if she`d like something to drink with the children. Went up brought 12-liter water, cola and orange juice. When l came back she had this "Gold"ring and offered it for $150 l said no thanks, she kept begging so l agreed to buy for 100.to make long story short, I bought 3 items all at 300 and felt proud at being lucky on a Sunday. In my mind l had helped a family in need.she explained she was on her way to France and they did not have money for fuel, she was selling the gold cheap because she got them from her grandma in Romania years ago and now she was desperate. The money that l gave was not even mine but l could not let such a bargain pass me by,stupid me l did not even check if the gold was real, I'm naive and trusting and i believed what she said. The first person l told, told me even without looking at my purchase that they are fake, and he was right all was fake l had lost 300+50 that l gave to the kids directly. When l told another friend, his was even worse, it was more or less the same trick, this time with a camera which he paid 20 Euro because the people in the car were so desperate for food and gas. As soon as the car moved, they gave him the finger and he could not understand why, when he checked the camera box, there was a stone inside and no camera. l never forgave the woman, l could have given her the 50 free for her kids. Have you been fooled so badly and conned?

I have had someone try to sell me things like this, but I didn't purchase it. One, I didn't have the money, and two...I didn't want to get fooled like that. I am sorry you found yourself in that situation....

No, but we were always told never to trust strangers. i would have never offered them drinks and I would not have even looked at what they wanted to sell. I'm sorry you did, i know you were trying to be kind. Its a shame they got away with it.

@miniam I will admit if someone asked if i had something to give the kids for a drink I might share bottles of water I keep in the house but I would also be suspicious of any parent who didn't think of that before they left home...

I would say im surprised you`d not even offer drinks, but l feel if i did not have offered the drinks in the first place, they would have driven away and there would not have been any conversation leadng to me loosing my money. You are wise

It is hard to stay vigilant all the time and not get conned at least one in a life time. There are more and more scammers now :(

So far, I haven't been fooled. I can understand your side because you have a good heart and easily convinced that they really need that money and I've read, watch from tv and heard about this kind of people who used to take advantage of other people, so from that I'm keeping it on my mind that there are really people to be watch.

@miniam Yes, that is one of their instrument, they used children to win our hearts.

How horrible! I've been warned too many times not to be too trusting of anyone, but it's difficult. A hard lesson to learn!

There always will be the cheap con men everywhere. We can help them of course, but don't expect any thanks in return.
