We have had two of our nearby town's names grossly mispronounced in the news media. Downright funny, if you ask me. Here they are...
Schuyler is properly pronounced SKY-Ler. But the media? SHOO-Ler.
Appomattox is AP-Po-MAT-Tux. But the media? A-POE-muh-tox.
No, really. And these are the people who bring you your news...
Any instances you know of that tickle the ole funny bone?

Great. As to Staunton (not far from me), I tell people I visit my ANT in STAWNTON. You visit your AWNT in STANTON. It makes no sense. Also here, Faber is pronounced FOBBER. In England, Leicester is LESTER. Go figure...

@KuznVinny my real last name is constantly mispronounced or miss spelled. It does have an unusual spelling, but is phonetic, so there is really no excuse for the mispronunciation.

@Morleyhunt The same thing for my wife in a sense. "How do you spell your name?" S-h-e-i-l-a. Far too many people spell it ridiculously: Shelia. That would be Shih-Lee-Uh. Worse, one woman's mother gave her the name Shelia and pronounced it Sheila. Poor kid.

We also have a road in nearby Charlottesville spelled Rio Rd. Most say Ree-o. But it's Rye-o.

I live near a town in Illinois called Bourbonnais. It's pronounced Bur Bon AA but the old timers around here call it Bur Bo NIs I'm not sure which one is correct.
