Whitesnake leader David Coverdale is one of those lucky guys who's been blessed with an air raid siren for a voice, which he uses to great effect on the band's hard rocking single "Still of the Night."
It wasn't a big hit - the song peaked at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100, but man, hit or not, does it have "listen at full volume" written all over it.
A lot of it has to do with the rest of the band, a tight unit that boasts guitarist John Sykes, longtime Gary Moore bassist Neil Murray, and drummer Aynsley Dunbar, all of whom provide enough oomph to match Coverdale's laser-sharp vocals.
The band's 1987 self-titled album contained both a #1 and a #2 hit song. However, I give "Still of the Night" the nod as best song on the record.

I was never into Whitesnake being more into alternative in the 80s than power ballad hair bands. However, Coverdaie has a good voice and I know him best from Deep Purple.

I probably could have filled the entire iPod with 80's alternative, honestly. But I wanted a little variety.
