A report from Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report said on Friday that current Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard, 30, who could opt out of his current contract with the Rockets at the end of the current basketball season is interested in playing basketball for the New York Knicks or the Orlando Magic next basketball season.
Howard would like to stay with the Rockets if they are willing to pay him a salary that he wants to remain with the team.
If the Rockets decide to let Howard enter the free agent market, he would like to play for a basketball team in the National Basketball Association that is willing to pay him a long term contract before he retires from playing basketball.
The top priority that Howard has at this time to get the Rockets into the postseason and perform at an excellent level during the playoffs so he can have leverage to get a new high paying contract to play basketball next season.
Howard did play basketball for the Magic from 2004-2012 as a first round draft choice in the 2004 National Basketball Association Draft out of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.
It remains to be seen if the Magic are interested in signing Howard who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers before the start of the 2012-13 basketball season before he joined the Rockets as a free agent before the start of the 2013-2014 basketball season.

I am pretty sure Howard will opt out. Houston has been a failure after such lofty expectations. I don't see him returning to Orlando. I heard the Knicks before. Howard like Phil Jackson. The Knicks have the money and place Howard with Melo, that Russian rookie and a lottery pick and the Kinicks make the playoffs.

You could be right that the Knicks will get him since he is in search for an NBA championship before he retires and enjoy the bright lights of Broadway.

@TheHorse They got off to bad start and fired Kevin McHale. Getting Ty Lawson as the answer at point failed. He's gone. The Beard hasn't been as sharp. Good question. The Rockets are in danger of not making the playoffs.

Some people like him since he seems to be a nice guy with a smile on his face and then are some basketball reporters who do not like him since he acted immature when he did not want to be with the Magic at the end of the 2012 basketball season due to a back injury that needed to be operated.

Howard would never fit with the Warriors. Remember during the finals when Bogut with no complaint accepted being benched for Iguodala? Howard would pitch a fit. Nor would Howard fit with the Spurs.

@JohnRoberts I agree with you. Why Dwight is nicknamed Superman by ESPN just makes me laugh.

I remember him when he played for the Magic. We don't follow basketball as closely as football or tennis so I didn't realize he had been traded that much. He will for sure have to do well enough for the Rockets to consider bringing him back after this season. He has some good years left.

I always laugh when ESPN calls him Superman. He acts more like the Crimson Grasshopper.

@teamfreak16 He was never 100% healthy with the Lakers but that doesn't excuse his lack of effort. Thank God, it only cost Andrew Bynum to get him and I'm glad he didn't stay with the Lakers. With him, at best they would be like the Rockets and probably not even that as the Beard is young and Kobe is done.

@Deepizzaguy - With the Lakers, having to follow them on the Internet when I can, he apparently looked like a guy collecting a check.
