In the 1980's, no band was as hyped as much as Liverpool's Frankie Goes to Hollywood, best-known for their smash hit "Relax," possibly the most instantly identifible song from that decade. Fronted by vocalist Holly Johnson, the Frankie's combined songs about sex ("Relax") with protest songs such as "Two Tribes," both found on the band's debut, Welcome to the Pleasuredome. Pleasuredome's epic title track leans to the band's "dirty" side, and, as the album's opening track, sets, musically, the tone for the double record. The edited version (it's over thirteen minutes on the album) was an international hit (#2 in both Ireland and England, with chart appearances in numerous countries.) Sure, it's not "Relax," but it's one of the best songs on a good album, and, as a bonus, Yes guitarist Steve Howe appears as well. Give in to the glory that was Frankie.

@TiarasOceanView - Producer Trevor Horn had a lot to do with the sound. I did get to see them at Red Rocks. Speculation is that they had to use a lot of sequencing and backing tapes to reproduce that sound.

Awesome!!! This is classic 80s alternative new wave. I think Two Tribes was my favorite Frankie song. Welcome to the Pleasuredome was epic. Great, great highlight you posted.
